Short answers about Handled with Care, the app that helps a family share the caregiving.
Getting Started
What is Handled with Care?
A shared place for the family to run the caregiving: medications, appointments, tasks, rides, and notes on how your person is doing. Everyone in your Care Crew sees the same thing, so nobody has to be the group text.
It helps you coordinate. It doesn't monitor anyone, give medical advice, or call for help. In an emergency, call 911.
What should I do first?
- Answer 3 quick questions about the person you care for: what helps them feel calm, a favorite thing, and what tends to cause stress. Or tap Remind Me Later: Get to Know is added to the Get Started card, and Today reminds you once the next day. You can always add more from View Profile on Today.
- Follow the Get Started card on Today: Add a Medication, Add an Appointment, Invite Someone, and Set Up Got It!. Each one ticks off by itself when it's done, and the card goes away when all of them are. Tap ✕ to hide it sooner.
- Turn on notifications for this device: tap the bell with the slash at the top of the screen, then Allow.
Joined through an invite? Your card is Welcome to the Care Crew: Turn On Notifications and Set Your Availability.
How do I get around the app?
The bar at the bottom has Got It! (important papers and the Health Folder), Calendar, Today in the middle, Care Crew, and Meds. The menu at the top left has the rest: Tasks, Care Journal, What Do I Do If, the guides (Do They Need More Help?, What Do I Say? and Care Guides), Expense Tracker, Routines, A Moment for You, and more.
At the top of every screen: the magnifying glass searches everything, the bell shows what others in the Care Crew did (a heart with a number means unread ones), and your initial opens your account menu: profile, notifications, Plan and Billing, breaks, two-factor, your data, feedback, help, and Terms and Privacy. The arrow at the top left goes back.
Your phone's back button closes whatever is open first, then goes back a screen. From Today it leaves the app. If you've typed something you haven't saved, it asks before throwing it away.
What's on Today?
Their card first, with when someone last added to the Care Journal about them and the latest entry, like "Visit Notes, Kevin, 7:05 AM" (tap it to open it), View Care Journal, and two buttons: View Profile, and Add Journal Entry for a symptom, mood, photo, or update.
Needs Attention: what's waiting on someone, most pressing first. Urgent messages to you, new symptoms, doses nobody has logged, rides, things to confirm, refills, overdue tasks, and more. The top 3 show; tap View All for the rest.
Today's Schedule: the day in time order. Doses, appointments and events, and everyone's tasks due today, with whose they are. It shows what's next; tap View All for the whole day.
At the bottom, Coming Up: the next appointment in the next 3 days, with its ride, and a question to ask the provider.
How do I add something?
Tap the round + button. Add an appointment, a task, a medication, or another event, send a message (to the Care Crew chat or one person), or log a symptom, mood, photo, or update for your person.
It's on most screens. The Care Crew tab doesn't have it, so it never covers a message: go to Today to add something.
Can I put it on my home screen like an app?
Yes. On iPhone, open it in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, open it in Chrome, tap the ⋮ menu, then Install app or Add to Home screen.
On iPhone, notifications only work from the home screen version.
How do I make a fridge sheet for paramedics?
In Got It!, tap Ready for 911. The Emergency Responder Sheet is one page with what responders need: their name, date of birth, photo, how best to communicate, code status, allergies, medical conditions, emergency contacts and medications. Tap Emergency Responder Sheet to see it, Print for the Fridge to print it, or Share as PDF to print it later.
The full Care Summary (with the doctor, pharmacy, contacts and insurance too) is on Got It! and in each medical appointment's Before You Go: Bring the Care Summary.
Paramedics are trained to check the fridge. Keep it on the front, with a magnet. When a medication or allergy changes, the tile says Reprint needed, and an hour later the coordinator gets one reminder (Notification Preferences, Fridge Sheet Reminders).
Code status (Full Code, DNR, or POLST on File) is set by the coordinator in Got It!, Legal Docs, at the top with the Advance Directive. Ready for 911 also shows how to put medical information on their phone's lock screen.
Where do I add their full name, date of birth, or how to communicate with them?
On Today, tap View Profile on their card at the top. On their About page, tap Edit Name, Date of Birth, Communication. Full legal name, date of birth and communication are optional; tap Save. To keep the birth date and age off the About page, untick Show on their profile under Date of birth.
They show on the Emergency Responder Sheet and the Care Summary, with the full name first and the name you use in brackets, like Jane Marie Doe (Mom). The Emergency Responder Sheet always shows the date of birth. You can also tap Edit on the Emergency Responder Sheet to go straight there.
How do I add emergency contacts?
In Got It!, tap Emergency Contacts, then Add an Emergency Contact. Add their name, relationship and phone, and another number under Alternate Phone if they have one. Details is for anything else, like the best time to call.
Add as many as you like. The first one is marked Call First: use Move Up and Move Down to change the order. Everyone in the Care Crew sees the same list, and anyone can change it.
They show in that order on the Care Summary. The Emergency Responder Sheet shows the first two, to keep room for medications, then says More contacts in the app if there are others. Tap a number to call it.
How do I remove an allergy?
In Got It!, tap Allergies, then the trash button next to it. Choose why: a doctor confirmed it's not an allergy, it was added by mistake, or Other with a short note. Only the coordinator or the person who added it can remove it.
It moves to Recently Removed at the bottom of the list for 90 days, with who removed it, when and why, and then it's deleted. Anyone in the Care Crew can tap Put It Back.
Removed allergies don't show on the Care Summary or the Emergency Responder Sheet. Everyone else in the Care Crew gets a notice in the bell when one is removed or put back.
What do I say when…?
Open the menu at the top left, then What Do I Say?. It has 11 hard moments, like Mom asking to go home when she is home, refusing a shower, or the car keys. Tap one to see The Situation, Try Saying, Try Not to Say, Why It Works and If It Goes Sideways.
You can also search for a word, like keys, shower or siblings. Search finds Care Guides and Do They Need More Help? the same way.
How do I keep track of legal documents?
In Got It!, tap Legal Docs. At the top is Healthcare Documents Every Parent Should Have, then the Advance Directive and the code status, then a card for each: the Healthcare Power of Attorney, the Living Will (and its POLST line) and the HIPAA Authorization. The will, financial power of attorney, beneficiaries and trust are in the full guide, The 7 Documents Every Parent Should Have, at the top.
On each card, tap Have It, Need It or Not Sure, and write where the signed original is kept. Everyone in the Care Crew sees it, with who changed it last. Add It saves a copy in Got It! for each one, the POLST too, and then says View. Read More explains each one.
This isn't legal advice: for anything unclear, talk with an elder law or estate planning attorney.
Where are the emergency papers?
On Got It!, the open folder at the bottom. The Health Folder at the top has what you'd want in a hurry: insurance, emergency contacts, Legal Docs (the advance directive), and Ready for 911 with the Emergency Responder Sheet for the fridge. The Care Summary tile has everything on file (medications, conditions, allergies, code status, the doctor and pharmacy, contacts, insurance) to show on your phone, print, or share as a PDF for an ER visit.
My Account
How do I sign up?
On the Welcome screen, tap Get Started. Enter your email and a password (at least 8 characters), then tap the link we email you. Last, add your first name and who you're caring for, and agree to the privacy policy. That creates your Care Crew, with you as its coordinator.
If someone invited you, open their invite link. The Welcome screen says who invited you; tap Join, then the same email and password steps. You'll only be asked your first name, and you join their Care Crew instead of starting your own.
If an invite link has expired or was already used, ask the person who invited you for a new one.
I didn't get the confirmation email.
Check spam and promotions, and give it a few minutes. On the Check Your Email screen, tap Send It Again, or Wrong Email? Go Back to fix the address.
If the link says it can't be used (each one works once), tap "Send a New Confirmation Email" on that screen. If you've already confirmed, just sign in: the app picks up where you left off. Still stuck? Email support.
I can't sign in, or I forgot my password.
On the Welcome screen, tap I Have an Account, then "Forgot Password?". Enter your email and tap Send Reset Link. The link in the email works once. Choose a new password (at least 8 characters) and you're signed in.
Can't type in the sign-in box? Close your browser completely and reopen it.
How do I turn on two-factor authentication?
Account menu, Two-Factor Authentication. Scan the code with an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, or similar), then enter its 6-digit code to confirm. From then on, signing in asks for a code from the app.
It's never asked for at sign-up. After your first week, Today suggests it once with Add an Extra Lock; Not Now hides that for 30 days.
There are no backup codes yet, so before you wipe an old phone, move your authenticator accounts to the new one. Locked out? Email support.
How do I send feedback?
Tap your picture at the top right, then Send Feedback. Type what's working, what isn't, or what you wish it did, and tap Send.
It goes straight to the people who make the app, with the app version, the screen you were on, and your phone type, so you don't have to explain those. We read every one. Handled with Care is in beta, so this helps a lot.
How do I download my data?
Account menu, Download or Delete My Data, then Download. You get a file (JSON) with your Care Crew's shared information plus your own private things, like check-ins and consent history.
How do plans and billing work?
Every Care Crew starts with a 30-day free trial of Premium, no card needed. Then the coordinator chooses a plan in the account menu (your picture at the top right), then Plan and Billing: Basic ($9.99 a month or $79 a year) or Premium ($14.99 a month or $99 a year). Everyone they invite joins free.
Premium adds photo scans, voice notes, the Expense Tracker, the calendar link, and Do They Need More Help? Without a plan, medications, allergies, code status, emergency contacts, the fridge sheet, check-ins and support stay free, and everything else can be seen but not changed. Nothing is ever deleted because of billing.
Payments go through Stripe. Whoever pays can change the card or cancel in Manage Billing. If you cancel, the plan ends that day and the unused part is refunded.
Where are the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy?
Account menu, Terms and Privacy: Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy. They're also on the web at handledwithcare.care/terms, /privacy-policy and /health-privacy-policy.
When you sign up, you confirm you're 18 or older and agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and you agree separately to the Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my account or my data?
Account menu, Download or Delete My Data, then Request Deletion. That opens the privacy request form, or you can email privacy@genxcaregiver.care. A person reviews every request, and it's done within 45 days. Download your data first if you want a copy.
Private messages are deleted for both people when either person deletes their account.
If you're the last person in a Care Crew and you leave it, its information is scheduled for deletion.
How do I change my photo or my role?
Account menu, Your Profile. You can change your photo, your relationship to your person, your caregiving role, and your phone.
Can the Care Crew see my phone number?
Only if you choose. In Your Profile, add your phone, then turn on Show My Number to the Care Crew. With it on, your name in Care Crew shows Call and Text buttons to everyone in your Care Crew.
It starts off. With it off, only you can see your number. To remove it, clear the field and tap Save.
What happens when I sign out?
This device stops getting your notifications, and the app clears what it kept on this device. Your information stays in your account for next time.
Your Care Crew
How do I invite someone?
Only the coordinator can invite. On The Care Crew tab, tap Invite a Family Member, confirm that they'll see your person's health information, and share the link. If they're with you, they can scan the QR code under the link with their phone's camera instead.
Each link works once and expires in 7 days, so make one per person.
What's the difference between a coordinator and a member?
Everyone handles the day-to-day: meds, the calendar, tasks, rides, the Care Journal.
The coordinator also invites and removes people, hands off the coordinator role, sets the Care Crew time zone, deletes documents in Got It!, makes a new calendar link, and can delete anyone's Care Journal entries and tasks. Members can delete their own.
In Got It!, anyone can edit a document's text. Only the person who added its photo or PDF, or the coordinator, can replace that file. Anyone can tap Share to send it from the phone (or Download it on a computer).
How do I remove someone?
Coordinators only. On The Care Crew tab, tap Edit (beside your Care Crew's name), then Remove under their name. They lose access right away, and their open tasks become unassigned. They can no longer see their private messages with the Care Crew; the others can still read them, but no one can send new ones.
How do I hand off the coordinator role?
On The Care Crew tab, tap Edit (beside your Care Crew's name), then Make Coordinator under the person. They take over invites and members, and you become a regular member.
How do I leave a Care Crew?
On The Care Crew tab, tap your own picture, then Leave This Care Crew. You lose access right away. If you're the coordinator, make someone else coordinator first.
If you're the last person, leaving schedules the Care Crew's information for deletion, so download your data first if you want it.
Can I be in more than one Care Crew?
Not yet. Right now each account belongs to one Care Crew. If you open an invite to a second one, the app tells you and keeps you where you are. We're working on it.
Until then, you can join a second Care Crew with a separate account under a different email.
Calendar and Tasks
How do I add an appointment?
Tap +, then Appointment. Pick one from Providers or type what it is, choose a date and time, and add a location or notes if you like.
Reminders, repeat, rides, comments, and attachments are under Additional details. On a task, comments are in the task itself: tap it in the list.
What's an "other event"?
Anything that isn't a medical appointment: the salon, church, a family visit, lunch out. It goes on the calendar so everyone knows, without the How Did It Go? notes and visit prep that appointments get. Leave the time blank for an all-day event.
How do repeating items work?
Open Additional details, then Repeat, and pick how often: daily, weekdays, certain days of the week, every 2 or 3 weeks, monthly, or yearly. It can end on a date or after a number of times.
When you change or delete one, choose "Just This One" or "This and All Future". Past ones never change, and an all-day event today counts as already happened, so it stays. Future dates that someone already changed, completed, or added notes, attachments, or visit notes to are kept as they are.
To skip dates or move several at once, use Manage Upcoming Dates under Repeat.
How do rides work?
In an appointment or event, open Additional details, then Transportation, and choose how they're getting there. Pick a Care Crew member as the driver and they get a notification, plus a heads-up if the time changes or they're taken off.
For a rideshare, medical transport, or a shuttle, choose who's booking it. If nobody is chosen, the coordinator is asked. Once it's booked, tap Mark Booked so everyone can stop wondering.
A medical appointment in the next week with no ride shows under Needs Attention on Today.
On the Calendar and Today's Schedule, a short label beside an upcoming appointment says where its ride stands: Needs Ride or Ride Not Booked (outlined in rose, something to do), or Ride Booked, You Drive, the driver's name, or Ride Set.
How does the Tasks screen work?
Choose All, Mine (the ones assigned to you), or No one yet (tasks nobody has picked up). The app remembers your choice. Tasks are grouped: Overdue, Today, This week, Later, and No date.
Tap the circle to check one off. It moves to Done, and Undo brings it back if you tapped by mistake. Done shows the last 30 days; tap Show Older for the rest. Tap a done task's check to put it back on the list.
Tap a task to see everything about it: who, the details, the note, and comments. Edit and Mark Done are at the bottom. Only the person who added a task, or the coordinator, can delete it.
How do comments on a task work?
Open the task and add a comment at the bottom. The person it's assigned to and others involved are notified, as before.
You can edit or delete your own comments. An edited one says "(edited)", and editing doesn't notify anyone again.
What does "I Can Help" do?
It's on tasks nobody has taken yet. Tap it and the task is yours, and Undo hands it back. If two people tap at once, the first one gets it, and the other is told who beat them to it.
When someone adds a task with no one on it, everyone else in the Care Crew gets a notification: New task needs someone.
How do reminders work?
In a task, appointment, or event, open Additional details, then Reminders. Add up to 3, from "At the time" to "2 days before". For things with no time, choose the morning of (8 AM) or the evening before (6 PM).
Choose who gets each one: just you, the assigned person or driver, or the whole Care Crew. If no one is assigned (or no Care Crew driver is set), that reminder comes to you. A "just you" reminder is yours: only you can change or remove it. Reminders follow the Care Crew's time zone.
Everyone also gets an automatic heads-up about an hour before each appointment. Change either kind in Notification Preferences.
Can I see the calendar in Google, Apple, or Outlook?
Yes. On Calendar, tap Connect your calendar app. Anyone with that link can see your person's appointments, so share it carefully.
It's one way: make changes here, and Google can take a few hours to catch up. Tasks aren't included.
Medications
How do I add a medication?
On Meds, tap Add Medication, or Scan a Bottle or List. Pick each time it's given (hour, minute, AM or PM); tap + Add another time for a medication given more than once a day.
For something given only when needed, tap "Taken as needed (PRN)" instead.
How do I log a dose?
On Meds, tap the circle on a dose to mark it taken. Tap it again to undo (it asks first). Only the person who logged a dose, or the coordinator, can change or undo it. Tap anywhere else on a medication to see its details, change today's dose, or edit it.
On Today, each dose nobody has logged shows under Needs Attention: tap it to say what happened. Once a dose is an hour past its time with nothing logged, the app asks what happened: Given, or Not given (skipped or missed), with an optional reason: Refused, Asleep, Held per doctor, or Other with a short note. A dose from last night can still be logged the next morning.
Each dose has one answer. If someone already logged it, you'll see who.
Several medications at the same time? Tap All Given next to the time: it lists them and asks first, then logs each one as given by you. Any already logged, or marked not given, are left alone.
How do medication reminders work?
One reminder per dose time, not one per pill: "8:00 AM · 3 medications for Mom: Lisinopril, Metformin, Asa." Tap it to open Meds at that time.
Dose Time Reminders come at the dose time. They're on for the coordinator to start (and for whoever covers the coordinator's break), and off for everyone else; anyone can turn them on or off in Notification Preferences.
Missed Dose Alerts come an hour later, only if doses at that time still aren't logged, and list just those: one alert, not one per pill. Everyone gets them unless they turn them off.
As-needed medications never get reminders. Quiet hours hold them, nobody on a break gets them, and each also shows in the bell.
What's the difference between missed and not logged?
Not given (the app stores it as missed) means someone said the dose wasn't given, whether it was skipped on purpose or missed. A dose marked "Held per doctor" isn't counted as missed: Since the Last Visit and Show the Doctor list it separately, for example "3 missed, 2 held per doctor". Not logged means it's more than an hour past its time and nobody has said either way. Usually that's a forgotten tap, but you can't tell from here.
Not logged doses are the ones that send alerts, an hour after the dose time, never before (one alert for all the doses at that time). Logging Not given is worth the tap: it clears it from Needs Attention and tells everyone the question is answered. The app never suggests giving a past dose late; if you're unsure, ask the medical team or pharmacist.
How do as-needed (PRN) medications work?
Tap Log a Dose each time one is given. If anyone logged a dose in the last 4 hours, the app shows when and by whom and asks before logging another.
If you set a maximum per day, the count turns amber when you reach it and red if you go over, and the app warns you before logging past it. It won't stop you. Check with the medical team before going over.
How does scanning a label work?
On Meds, tap Scan a Bottle or List and take a clear, well-lit photo. The first time, you're asked to agree to the photo being read by AI (Anthropic). The photo isn't stored.
You review every medication it finds before anything is saved, so check the name and dose against the bottle. Each Care Crew gets 60 photo scans a month (medications and receipts together), starting over on the 1st.
How do refill reminders work?
Add a Refill due date to a medication, and choose who handles its refills (Refills handled by). That person gets a reminder 5 days before the date, and again on the day if it hasn't changed. If no one is chosen, the coordinator gets them.
Reminders come after 9 AM and wait for your quiet hours to end. Turn them off in Notification Preferences, Refill Reminders. After a refill, change the date to the next one.
Where's a medication's history?
Tap a medication, then History. It shows the last 30 days of doses (given or not given, the reason, and who logged each one), and every change, recorded automatically: added, dose or times changed, stopped, and why.
To stop one, tap it, then Stop This Medication: choose why (optional), and tap Stop This Medication at the bottom. Stopped medications move to View Past Medications at the bottom of Meds instead of being erased, most recently stopped first. Tap one to see why it stopped and its history, or Restart This Medication to add it back (check the dose and times against the new order before saving). The bell tells you when someone else changes a medication.
Care Journal and Visits
What goes in the Care Journal?
Notes on how your person is doing, shared with the whole Care Crew: moods, symptoms, photos, and updates. Add one with + or Add Journal Entry on Today. Visit notes from How Did It Go? land here too, and a line like "Nikki noticed Mom was short of breath" when you tap I'm Noticing This Now on one of your What Do I Do If instructions.
Entries are grouped by day, newest first.
How do I find, change, or delete an entry?
Tap Filter to show only one kind of entry, some dates, one symptom, or one person's entries. The line under Filter says what's showing; tap Clear to see everything again.
Tap an entry to open it. Edit is there for entries you wrote; Delete is there for your own, and the coordinator can delete any. Delete asks first.
How do I log mood?
Tap Mood and pick one of five faces, from Great to Distressed. Engagement is optional. Distressed shows on Today under Needs Attention for a day.
Mood and Pain Report, near the top of the Care Journal, shows two charts for the last 7 or 30 days: mood, and pain (0 to 10, higher is more pain). Download PDF or Print it to bring to an appointment: it has the charts and the symptoms logged in those days.
How do I log a symptom?
Tap Symptom, pick what you're seeing (pain, a fall, confusion, and so on), and how severe: Mild is chosen to start, so change it if it's worse. A severe symptom shows on Today under Needs Attention for a day.
For pain, tap a number from 0 (no pain) to 10 (worst pain). The number sets how severe it is: 1 to 3 Mild, 4 to 6 Moderate, 7 to 10 Severe. Pain 7 or higher shows on Today under Needs Attention.
For a fall, chest pain, trouble breathing, or anything severe, the app reminds you to call 911 if it's an emergency, and shows any matching instructions from your What Do I Do If list.
Where do vitals go?
For now, vitals are entered with the visit notes (How Did It Go?): blood pressure, pulse, temperature (°F), weight (lb), oxygen (%), and blood sugar (mg/dL).
The app only refuses impossible numbers. It doesn't judge what's normal. That's the medical team's call.
What's "How Did It Go?"?
After a medical appointment, How Did It Go? shows on Calendar and under Needs Attention on Today, with how many visits are waiting for notes. Tap it, pick a visit, and fill in what the doctor said, new prescriptions, next steps, and any vitals.
Saving shares it with the Care Crew as a visit note in the Care Journal, so nobody has to ask "so what did they say?"
Visits more than 30 days old drop off the list. You can still add notes from the appointment itself: open it and tap Add Visit Notes.
What's "Since the Last Visit"?
Open an upcoming medical appointment to see what's happened since the last visit with that provider (or the last 14 days): moods, pain, symptoms, vitals, missed doses, medication changes, and notable notes.
It suggests questions to ask. Tap Add to save one to the appointment's list.
In the 3 days before a medical appointment, Today also shows it with one question: anything to ask about when to call vs. wait. The same question is in the appointment. Save as a Visit Note adds it to the questions; Not This Time puts it away for that appointment.
What's "Show the Doctor"?
It's at the bottom of Since the Last Visit. It shows the same summary in large print, with the Mood and Pain chart for that time and your open questions, so you can hand the phone across the desk.
It's what the family entered, not a medical record.
Notifications
Why am I not getting notifications?
Check these in order:
- Turn them on for this device: while they're off, the bell at the top has a slash through it. Tap it, then Allow. If you turned them down before, Notifications opens with how to allow them in your settings. Each phone or computer needs this once.
- On iPhone, use the home screen app, not Safari.
- If you tapped Don't Allow, turn notifications back on for the app in your phone or browser settings, then reopen it.
- In Notification Preferences, check the type isn't set to Off, and check your quiet hours.
- Check you're not on a break.
- On Android with Firefox, set Firefox's battery use to Unrestricted (Android Settings, Apps, Firefox, Battery). That helps reminders arrive on time.
Everything still shows in the bell either way.
Do notifications work on iPhone?
Yes, with one catch: Apple only allows them for web apps added to the home screen, on iOS 16.4 or later.
In Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. Open the app from that icon, sign in, tap the bell with the slash at the top of the screen, then Allow.
What are quiet hours?
Notification Preferences, Quiet Hours. Pick a window and what to hold: missed dose alerts and reminders to start with, and the daily activity summary if you like. Held alerts arrive when quiet hours end.
Private messages, assigned tasks, and rides always come through. If an appointment starts during your quiet hours, its heads-up comes just before they begin, marked "Coming up during your quiet hours".
What's the daily activity summary?
One message at 7 PM (Care Crew time) with what others in your Care Crew did, instead of a ping for every note and change: new Care Journal entries, appointment and medication changes, and chat. Your own activity isn't counted, and if nobody else did anything, there's no summary that day.
Missed dose alerts and appointment reminders aren't in it: they're time-sensitive, so they always come right away (or not at all, if you turn them off). The summary is on to start with. Turn it off in Notification Preferences.
What's The Week Ahead?
Every Sunday at 6 PM (Care Crew time), everyone in the Care Crew gets a look at the coming Monday through Sunday: appointments, rides that still need a driver, tasks no one has taken, refills due, and who's away. Your own things come first, under Yours This Week.
It comes as a short notification and an email, with counts only (no names of doctors or medicines), and as a card on Today with the details from Sunday evening through Monday. Tap a line to open it, or ✕ to put the card away.
Any day, tap This Week on Calendar for the next 7 days. When nothing needs a hand (no ride without a driver, no task without someone, no refill, nobody away), it's called A Quiet Week Ahead.
In a quiet week, nothing is sent; the card just says A Quiet Week Ahead. To stop the notification and the email, turn off The Week Ahead in Notification Preferences. The card on Today still shows; close it with ✕.
What does "Hide Details on Your Lock Screen" do?
It keeps health details off your lock screen. With it on, which is how it starts, a notification says something like "A medication reminder needs your attention." instead of naming the medication. Open the app to see what it is.
If your lock screen is private, you can turn it off in Notification Preferences.
How does Away mode work?
Account menu, Taking a Break. Pick when you're back (up to 30 days), leave a note, and choose who's covering. Your notifications from the Care Crew pause, and you can hand your tasks and rides to your cover.
While it's on, open Taking a Break again to choose or change who's covering, or change when you're back. Anything you handed to your cover moves to the new one.
Alerts are paused, but you can tap the bell to see what you missed, and you get a "While you were away" summary when you're back. If something truly can't wait, others can reach you with "It's urgent", up to 3 times a day.
The break ends on its own, or tap End Break.
Privacy and Safety
Who can see what?
Everyone in your Care Crew sees the shared information: medications, the calendar, tasks, the Care Journal, Providers, Got It!, and the group chat. Nobody outside your Care Crew can see any of it.
Private messages are only between you and the other person. Your Weekly Check-In and 2-Minute Check-In are yours alone.
Where's the weekly check-in?
Once a week, the first time you open the app and haven't checked in yet, it asks "How are you doing this week?" Tap Check In; Remind Me Tomorrow (or ✕) to be asked again tomorrow; or Skip This Week to wait until next week. Your choice is remembered on this device.
You can check in anytime: the menu at the top left, then Weekly Check-In.
Are check-ins private?
Yes. The Weekly Check-In ("How are you doing this week?") and the 2-Minute Check-In are for you only, not the Care Crew.
After two rough weeks, the app offers to message someone to step in. Nothing is sent unless you choose to.
Why does the app say it's offline for maintenance?
Sometimes Handled with Care is taken offline to protect your information, for example while a problem is checked. While it's offline, nobody can see or change anything in the app, and reminders and notifications are paused. Nothing you entered is lost.
The app checks every few minutes and comes back on its own. Reminders that were due while it was offline may not be sent afterward, so check Today when it's back. In an emergency, call 911.
Is this an emergency service?
No. Handled with Care helps families coordinate. It doesn't monitor anyone or contact emergency services, and nobody watches it around the clock.
In an emergency, call 911. In a mental health crisis, call or text 988.
Where can I find outside help?
The menu at the top left, then When You Need Support. It lists national organizations with their hours: crisis lines (911, 988, Poison Control), help near your person (meals, rides, respite, Adult Protective Services), support for you, and Medicare and benefits.
Tap a number to call it, Text to send a text, or Website to open the site. It's also in Help and Support, A Moment for You, and your 2-Minute Check-In results.
Is anything here medical advice?
No. Everything here is entered by your family. Talk to your person's medical team before making medical decisions.
How are AI features used, and can I say no?
Two features use AI, and only after you agree. Photo scans (medication labels and receipts) are read by Anthropic's Claude. Voice notes are turned into text by OpenAI's Whisper and tidied up by Claude. The photos and recordings aren't stored, and you review the result before anything is saved.
Change your mind any time in the account menu, AI Consent. Everything else works without AI.
How do I report a safety or privacy concern?
